Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has banned any demonstrations in the city saying militia were taking advantage of the situation to loot and destroy property.

He said NASA Governors had agreed with the Coalitions leader that demonstrations will only be held in Nairobi and reiterated having been present.

He however added that demos in Kisumu can only happen if called by NASA.

Nyong’o termed as criminal acts, actions by youths who barricade roads, robed locals and pelted vehicles with stones during demonstrations.

“Who are these people taking decisions without the party –ODM – directing them yet we have party leadership led by myself in this county?” he asked.

He urged the police to deal firmly with those who go against the law adding that demonstrations must conform to legal guidelines.

“we’ve told the police to deal with anybody putting stones on the road. Anybody molesting a dweller residing in Kisumu will be treated as a criminal,” Nyong’o warned.

Investors in Kisumu have expressed concerns in the recent past over the increasingly hostile business environment occasioned by disorderly demonstrators who have had a trend of storming into private businesses during demonstrations.
