Governor Nyong’o Applauds SGR Extension To Kisumu

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has welcomed the planned extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Kisumu and Malaba, following President William Ruto’s recent visit to China.
During his four-day trip, President Ruto signed an agreement for a new funding model to support the next phase of the SGR project, which includes the long-awaited extension to Kisumu.
Nyong’o thanked the President for securing the deal with the Chinese government.
“On behalf of the people of Kisumu, I would like to sincerely thank President William Ruto for successfully negotiating the financing of the SGR from Nakuru, through Kisumu, and connecting Kenya and Uganda through Malaba,” Governor Nyong’o said.
“This branch of Kenya Railways has been on the drawing board for a long time. Making it a reality at last is something we in the Lake Region need to applaud. Kudos, President.”
Governor Nyong’o said the extension of the railway will boost the economy of Western Kenya by improving Kisumu Port operations, promoting tourism, strengthening trade, and enhancing regional integration across East Africa.
President Ruto completed his state visit to China yesterday. Today, he is in Rome attending the funeral of Pope Francis.
Governor Nyong’o’s positive remarks come just days after he had criticized President Ruto over alleged attempts to undermine devolution.
