Govt to Overhaul JKIA–ABC Road Corridor

President Ruto Hosts Ukambani Leaders

The government has announced a major plan to repair and upgrade the highway linking Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to ABC Point through Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way.

Speaking on Friday, December 12, during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, President William Ruto said the renovation of the 27-kilometre stretch is necessary to ease heavy traffic and improve road safety for motorists.

The road upgrade will begin this month and will cover the section from Mombasa Road, through the Nairobi Central Business District, and all the way to Waiyaki Way.

President Ruto noted that the route has been in poor condition for some time, making travel difficult for thousands of commuters who use it daily.

“When you go for Christmas this month, we will renovate the highway which connects from JKIA through to ABC and beautify it so that Nairobi can look better,” the President said.

Ruto added that his administration has instructed contractors to resume work on stalled road projects across the city, including the Mombasa Road–Uhuru Highway–Waiyaki Way corridor.

In addition to this route, the President highlighted ongoing repairs on Valley Road, Ngong Road and Haile Selassie Avenue.

He also announced that more roads—such as the Bomas of Kenya–Rongai–Kiserian and Bomas of Kenya–Karen–Shade Hotel–Ngong–Embulbul–Kiserian routes—will be upgraded and expanded starting next year to improve connectivity and reduce traffic jams.
