Grade 10 Learners Get Second Chance to Review School Placement

Learners who are unhappy with their Grade 10 Senior School placement will have a second chance to change their school choices starting next week, the Ministry of Education has announced.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 30, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the second review period will run from Tuesday, January 6, to Friday, January 9. This comes after the first review exercise, whose results were released on Monday, December 29.

During the first review, the ministry received 355,457 applications. Out of these, 211,636 were approved, while the rest were rejected.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, most of the rejected applications were due to a lack of space in the selected schools or because the preferred subject combinations were not available.

“Learners were allowed to apply for a review of their initial placement from December 23, 2025. The review process ended on December 29, and the results are now available on the placement portal,” Ogamba said.

He noted that popular national schools such as Alliance High School, Kenya High School, and Mang’u High School received up to 20,000 applications each, despite having an average capacity of only about 500 students.

The ministry said that 88 per cent of learners have now been placed in line with their original or revised choices.

Learners whose review applications were successful can download their joining instructions from the ministry’s placement portal. All Grade 10 learners are expected to report to their respective senior schools starting January 12.

CS Ogamba announced the results of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) on Thursday, December 11, followed by the release of Grade 10 placement results on Friday, December 19.

A total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA examination, including 578,630 boys and 551,829 girls.
