Graham Robert Rahal, born on January 4, 1989, in Columbus, Ohio, is a prominent American race car driver and entrepreneur deeply embedded in the world of motorsports.

As the son of legendary IndyCar champion and 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, Graham has carved out his own distinguished path in open-wheel racing.

He combines a fierce competitive drive with a business acumen that extends beyond the track, owning several ventures including Graham Rahal Performance, a high-end automotive tuning and exotic car sales operation in Zionsville, Indiana, as well as Rahal Ducati dealerships in Indianapolis and Cleveland, and Rahal Paint Protection.

Married to former NHRA drag racing star Courtney Force—daughter of 16-time NHRA champion John Force—since November 2015, the couple has two daughters, Harlan Ann Rahal, born in 2020, and Tinley Rahal, born in 2022.

Rahal’s life off the circuit is equally dynamic; he is an avid golfer, a passionate supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Columbus Blue Jackets, and a dedicated philanthropist who co-founded the Graham & Courtney Rahal Foundation in 2019, focusing on childhood cancer research, support for children with serious illnesses, and veterans’ causes.

    Siblings

Graham grew up in a close-knit family steeped in the racing heritage of his father, Bobby Rahal, and his mother, Deborah Berry, whose unwavering support nurtured his early passion for speed.

As the only child to pursue a professional racing career among his siblings, Graham shares a bond with his three brothers and sisters, Jarrad Rahal, Isabella Rahal, and Ava Rahal.

Jarrad, the eldest sibling, has largely stayed out of the spotlight but remains part of the family’s racing-centric world.

Isabella and Ava, the younger sisters, contribute to the familial dynamic that has always emphasized hard work and resilience.

    Career

Rahal’s racing journey began in earnest during his teenage years, fueled by an innate talent evident as early as age three or four, when he tagged along to industry events with his father.

He burst onto the professional scene in 2007 at just 18 years old, becoming the second-youngest driver to compete in an IndyCar race, debuting at the Streets of Long Beach for Sarah Fisher Racing.

That same year, he transitioned to the Champ Car World Series with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing, where he quickly adapted to the rigors of high-level competition.

In 2008, Rahal etched his name into history by winning the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in IndyCar at age 19, making him the youngest winner in series history at the time—a record that underscored his prodigious skill.

His career trajectory saw him navigating team changes and challenges, including a stint in 2010 across multiple outfits like Newman-Haas-Lanigan, Rahal Letterman Racing, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, and Sarah Fisher Racing, before securing a two-year deal with powerhouse Chip Ganassi Racing in 2011 and 2012.

In 2013, he returned to his family roots, joining Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL)—co-owned by his father Bobby, David Letterman, and Mike Lanigan—where he has remained a cornerstone driver through the 2025 season, now in his 18th full year.

Key highlights include podium finishes at Barber Motorsports Park and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in 2015, snapping a six-year winless drought with victories at the MAVTV 500 in Fontana and the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio that same year, propelling him into the championship contention for the first time.

He doubled up with wins at the Detroit Grand Prix in 2017 and captured the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway in 2016.

Rahal’s versatility shines across road courses, street circuits, and ovals, with notable poles at Portland and the IMS Road Course, and strong Indy 500 performances, including third-place finishes in 2011 and 2020.

Entering 2025, he continues to pilot the No. 15 Honda for RLL, balancing the demands of a grueling 17-race schedule with his entrepreneurial pursuits, all while mentoring younger teammates like Louis Foster and Devlin DeFrancesco.

    Accolades

Rahal’s 2008 victory at St. Petersburg not only crowned him the youngest IndyCar race winner but also the youngest to claim a pole position, accolades that highlighted his rapid ascent and set a benchmark for future generations.

Over his tenure, Rahal has amassed six IndyCar Series victories, 33 podium finishes, and five pole positions, with standout seasons like 2015 yielding two wins and three additional podiums, including runner-up spots at Barber and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

His 2016 Firestone 600 triumph at Texas and dual wins at the 2017 Detroit Grand Prix further solidified his reputation as a clutch performer on ovals and street courses alike.

At the Indianapolis 500, Rahal has qualified for 18 consecutive starts as of 2025, boasting best finishes of third place in both 2011 and 2020, a testament to his endurance in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Early in his career, he earned nominations for prestigious honors, including Autosport Magazine’s Rookie of the Year in 2007 and recognition as a contender for SPEED Channel’s Performer of the Year alongside luminaries like Jimmie Johnson and Kimi Raikkonen.

Beyond the track, Rahal’s entrepreneurial spirit garnered the People’s Choice Award for Design of the Year in 2025 for his Wheelhouse Social Club project, a real estate venture that blended his vision with Dillon Construction Group and Studio M Architecture.
