Probe as GSU officer is attacked and drowned while on duty near JKIA fence

A General Service Unit officer manning part of the security fence around Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi was found murdered in a tragic incident.

Police said the incident happened next to the Kwa Mwenje Resort which is near the JKIA fence and the motive is yet to be known.

Police said the body of constable Nahashon Katumo was found in a pool of stagnant water near the resort moments after his murder on Sunday October 12, 2025 evening.

The suspect behind the incident was arrested by another GSU officer after a brief chase, police said

The deceased officer had gone to the resort to recharge his mobile phone and was leaving the place when he was attacked by the lone man in daylight attack. The officers lack places to recharge their mobile phones and they usually seek help at the resort.

The man hit and pushed the officer into the pool of water falling on his back. He was in his official uniforms.

Witnesses said he then drowned him. The officer lay helpless due to his injuries he had sustained in a brief scuffle.

His colleague who was near the area rushed to the scene moments later and found the deceased had succumbed, police said.

His G3 rifle with 20 bullets lay next to the body and intact.

It was then that he spotted the said assailant run away and chased him, police said adding he was arrested few meters away.

He had a head injury and was taken to the hospital and under arrest.

It emerged the two had an altercation at the resort that led to the attack and drowning. Witnesses said the assailants had strangled the officer before he threw him to the pool of water.

The body of the officer was retrieved from the scene and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

The airport’s perimeter fence is usually manned by armed officers.

Police said they are investigating the motive of the incident. It is not clear if the assailant and the officer knew each other.
