GTUG Kampala Hold Android Hackathon and Slum Mapping Event

Ugandans are not ready to be left behind. With input from the professionals from Makerere University and around Kampala, the company has activated for various tech events to attract next generation innovators. The last event was last weekend where Android Developers and enthusiasts met at Hive Collab and engaged on a marathon hacking mission, hackathon.

The target was never CIA, Uganda police or any such servers. The hacking target was the many challenges in life whose solutions are not there or still involve many archaic methods. So the Android Developers were trying to convince the 17 plus attendees why their method should be the best on to solve the challenges.

On Saturday 11th June, the group embarked on mapping the Katanga Slum in Kampala. The main tools were the laptops, internet connection and the Google Map Maker. The aim here is to map the key amenities in slums for ease of access and awareness. Health clinics, water points, roads, shops among others were the main target according to Richard, GTUG Kampala Lead.
