Deputy President William Ruto’s Ksh50 million pledge to the Harambee Stars will not come from his pocket but government coffers.

This was revealed on Friday by the new CS for Sports Amina Mohammed.

Amina alongside New Sports and Social Development Fund chairman Jackson Tuwei addressed the media at the ministry’s offices in Nairobi.

The money is part of the Stars’ AFCON 2019 budget of Ksh 244million which has already been approved by the government.

“We have discussed the issue and have resolved to give the Stars their money as part of the budget tabled forward by FKF.

We have given them Sh244 million and that money has already been wired to their accounts,” said Tuwei.

Ruto promised to reward the Stars if they qualified for the continental championship, a feat they have achieved with a game to spare.
