Holly Holm is an American mixed martial artist, former professional boxer, and kickboxer, widely recognized for her groundbreaking achievements in combat sports.

Born on October 17, 1981, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she grew up as the youngest of three children in a family influenced by her father’s role as a Church of Christ preacher, which earned her the nickname “The Preacher’s Daughter.”

Her early life was marked by athletic pursuits, including soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and diving, before she transitioned into aerobics classes that sparked her interest in kickboxing and eventually boxing.

Holm’s journey in professional sports has made her a trailblazer, becoming the only fighter to hold major world titles in both boxing and mixed martial arts.

Siblings

Holly has two older brothers, Brian Holm and Weston Holm, who have been significant figures in her life and career.

Brian, whom she refers to as her “Day 1” supporter, has been particularly influential, encouraging her to believe she could accomplish anything.

Weston, along with his friends, ventured into business by opening Blue Clover Distillery in Scottsdale, Arizona, where Holm has shown involvement in promoting their vodka brand.

Career

Holm’s career began in 2001 with kickboxing before she made her professional boxing debut in 2002 in her hometown of Albuquerque.

Over an 11-year boxing tenure, she amassed an impressive record of 33 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws, capturing 14 world titles across three weight divisions.

Retiring from boxing in 2013 to focus on mixed martial arts, she compiled a 7-0 MMA record before signing with the UFC in 2014.

Her UFC debut came in 2015, and she quickly rose to prominence by defeating Ronda Rousey via a stunning head-kick knockout at UFC 193 to claim the women’s bantamweight championship.

Although she lost the title in her next fight, Holm continued competing at high levels, facing top contenders in both bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

In recent years, she has balanced MMA with a return to boxing, signing with MVP Promotions in 2025 for a bout aimed at winning another title at age 44.

Her overall MMA record stands at 15-7 with one no contest.

In boxing, Holm was a multiple-time world champion, defending her titles 18 times across three weight classes, and was named The Ring magazine’s Female Fighter of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

She also earned awards such as Highest Achievements of the Year in 2008, Fighter of the Year in 2007, and Most Improved Boxer of the Year in both 2006 and 2007 from various boxing organizations.

Holm holds the distinction of being the highest-ranked female boxer in automated all-time pound-for-pound rankings at her boxing retirement.

Transitioning to MMA, she became the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion in 2015 and is inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Additionally, she is a member of the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame and has been honored as WBAN’s Fighter of the Month in October 2005.
