Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga claims his life is in danger.

This comes days after the burial of the Kasipul MP Charles Were.

Oyugi said he faced an assassination attempt on Sunday night.

The incident occurred at around 10 PM, according to one of the DG’s security personnel.

He said the family noticed unusual movement outside the compound by unknown people as the DG was still away. Upon realizing this, they informed the DG who took a different route in a different car. Upon his car’s arrival the assassin’s laid an ambush which was thwarted by his security in a gun fire exchange finally leading to a retreat of the attackers.

His security details said they spotted two suspicious male individuals hiding in a bush about 300 meters from the residence.

The driver stopped the vehicle and as the police officer stepped from the vehicle to enquire who they were, they dashed towards the nearby river and disappeared forcing the officer to shoot up in the air to thwart any attempts to breach their security.

Police said they are investigating the claims.

Police officers from Oyugis police station and Rachuonyo South visited the scene which is about seven kilometers from the station and established that the Deputy Governor was not in the company of security personnel and driver at the time of the incident fired four rounds from his Jericho pistol.

Addressing the press at his home in Kabuor village, Magwanga said he had received threats to his life but didn’t know it would come this fast.

He has appealed to the security agencies to be swift to investigate and bring culprits to book.

This become the third attack made on leaders in Homa Bay County in the past two months.

Police have launched investigations to determine the identity and motive of the assailants.
