House girl arrested in failed kidnap of three-month-old baby in Githurai Kimbo

A house girl who had escaped with a three-months old infant was arrested three days after the incident in what police termed as a failed kidnap incident in Githurai Kimbo, Kiambu County.
The baby girl was found in good health, officials said terming it a relief to the family.
The mother of the child had on October 6, 2025 reported that her baby girl was missing from home. She said her house girl had escaped with the baby.
Three days later, the house girl called from a different number saying she was the one on call and had the baby. This was on October 9, 2025, police said.
She further stated that she was at the local Shell Petrol Station near Githurai railway station with the infant and wanted some money before she could release her.
Police were alerted and responded to the scene and found the woman who is believed to be a Ugandan with the said baby.
The police were accompanied by the parents of the girl who identified her. The house girl was detained for grilling and possible prosecution, police said.
The baby was taken to the Ruiru Level Four Hospital for a check-up, police said.
Police said they are investigating if the woman has been involved in such past incidents.
Cases of child stealing and kidnap have been on the rise amid efforts to solve the trend. Some of the suspects behind the incidents have been arrested and prosecuted.
Police advise parents to thoroughly vet their house girls before they engage them.
This is after it emerged some of the suspects are foreigners who are out to make money from the parents after stealing or kidnapping the children.
Police have a special unit that is dealing with such cases. This followed the rise of the cases so far being reported, officials said.
