How Detectives Tracked and Arrested Five in Ruaka Kidnap Case

Detectives in Kiambu Sub-County have arrested five people accused of kidnapping a man in Ruaka and demanding a ransom of Sh500,000.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident came to light after the victim’s girlfriend tried to call him, but an unknown person answered and demanded the ransom for his safe release.
Acting on intelligence, detectives launched a pursuit that led them to Ithanga, where the victim was rescued. He was found with visible injuries and a blood-stained shirt.
The suspects—Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja—were later arrested near Quickmart Thindigua.
“The detectives also impounded two getaway vehicles used by the suspects: a Suzuki Swift and a Mazda Demio. A search of these vehicles revealed a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, and a tablet, among other items,” DCI said in a statement.
By the time of their arrest, the kidnappers had already received Sh68,000 in ransom. The five suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court.
