How To Change Hotspot Name On iPhone

Your iPhone’s hotspot allows you to share your mobile internet connection with other devices such as laptops, tablets, or other phones. By default, the hotspot name is the same as your iPhone’s device name. If you want to personalize your hotspot or make it easier to identify, you can easily change its name through your phone settings. Knowing how to change your hotspot name is useful, especially when there are many devices nearby using Wi-Fi.
- Open the Settings App
To begin, unlock your iPhone and locate the Settings app on your home screen. Tap on it to open. This is where all your iPhone’s system preferences are managed, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and hotspot settings.
- Go to General Settings
Scroll down the Settings menu and tap General. This section contains various device-related options such as About, Software Update, and Transfer or Reset iPhone. You will need to access your phone’s name settings from here.
- Select About
Inside the General settings, tap on About. This page displays important details about your iPhone, including the device name, software version, serial number, and storage information.
- Tap Name
At the top of the About page, you will see the current Name of your iPhone. Tap on it to edit. This name is what other devices see when you connect via Bluetooth, AirDrop, or Personal Hotspot.
- Enter a New Hotspot Name
Delete the existing name and type the new name you want to use for your iPhone’s hotspot. Choose something unique and easy to recognize, especially if you often share your internet connection in public or work environments. Once you have entered the new name, tap Done on the keyboard to save your changes.
- Verify the New Hotspot Name
After changing the name, go back to the Settings main menu and tap Personal Hotspot (or Cellular > Personal Hotspot, depending on your iPhone model). The name of your hotspot should now display as the new device name you entered.
If your hotspot is already turned on, turn it off and on again to refresh the change. Other devices will now see the new name when scanning for available Wi-Fi networks.
- Tips for Choosing a Good Hotspot Name
When selecting a hotspot name, avoid using personal information such as your full name or phone number for privacy reasons. Instead, choose something simple and memorable, like “My iPhone Hotspot” or “Gadget Hub.”
- Test the Connection
To confirm the change worked, turn on your hotspot and check from another device (such as a laptop or tablet). Open Wi-Fi settings and look for the new name in the list of available networks. If you see it, your hotspot name has been successfully updated.
