How To Check Your SASSA Balance

How To Check Your SASSA Balance

If you are a South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiary, it is important to know how to check your balance regularly. This helps you track your funds and plan your spending. Whether you receive your grant through a SASSA card, bank account, or mobile payment, there are several convenient ways to check your SASSA balance safely and quickly.

  1. Check Balance Using Your SASSA Card

The most common way to check your SASSA balance is by using your SASSA card. You can do this at any ATM that accepts Mastercard.

Insert your SASSA card into the ATM, enter your PIN, and select “Balance Enquiry.” The ATM will display your available funds, and you can also print a mini statement if needed. Some ATMs may charge a small fee, so it’s best to use a Postbank ATM to avoid extra charges.

  1. Check Balance via USSD Code

SASSA has made it easy to check your balance using a USSD code, which works on any phone. Simply dial *120*3210# or *120*69277# from your registered cellphone. Follow the on-screen prompts to access your account balance.

Make sure you use the same cellphone number that you registered for your SASSA grant. The system will send your current balance via SMS, which is quick and secure.

  1. Check Balance via WhatsApp

SASSA also allows beneficiaries to check their balances through WhatsApp. To use this method, save the SASSA WhatsApp number 082 046 8553 on your phone. Open WhatsApp, send the word “SASSA” to the number, and follow the menu prompts. Select the option to check your grant balance, and you will receive your details in a reply message.

This method is simple and works well for those who have smartphones with internet access.

  1. Visit a SASSA Office or Pay Point

If you prefer to check your balance in person, you can visit your nearest SASSA office or designated pay point. The officials can help you verify your payment details or provide a printout showing your recent transactions. Carry your ID and SASSA card for verification purposes.

  1. Check Balance Through Postbank

If your grant is linked to a Postbank account, you can call the Postbank toll-free helpline 0800 53 54 55. Follow the voice prompts and select the option for SASSA balance enquiry. You will be asked to enter your card number and PIN for verification.

  1. Check Balance via Retail Stores

Some major retail outlets such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Checkers allow you to check your SASSA balance at the till point. Present your SASSA card to the cashier, and they can print your available balance. You can also withdraw cash or make purchases directly from your grant.
