Gridlines in Excel help distinguish cells, but sometimes, you may want a cleaner look for presentations, reports, or printing. Fortunately, Excel allows you to remove gridlines easily using various methods, depending on whether you want to hide them temporarily or remove them for a specific section. Here is how to remove gridlines in excel.

Hiding Gridlines from the Entire Worksheet

If you want to remove gridlines across the entire sheet, Excel provides a built-in option:

  1. Open your Excel workbook and go to the Worksheet where you want to remove gridlines
  2. Click on the View tab in the top menu
  3. Under the Show group, uncheck the Gridlines box

This method hides gridlines instantly without affecting the data or formatting.

Removing Gridlines Using Page Layout

Another way to remove gridlines is through the Page Layout tab:

  1. Click on the Page Layout tab
  2. Locate the Sheet Options group
  3. Under Gridlines, uncheck the View option

This method works the same as the View tab but provides additional formatting options if needed.

Removing Gridlines by Changing Cell Fill Color

If you only want to remove gridlines from specific cells, you can do so by applying a background color:

  1. Select the cells where you want to remove gridlines
  2. Click on the Home tab
  3. In the Font group, click the Fill Color icon (paint bucket)
  4. Select White or any background color to override the gridlines

This method is useful when you need to keep gridlines in some parts of the worksheet while hiding them in others.

Removing Gridlines in Print View

If gridlines appear when printing but not on your screen, follow these steps to remove them from the printout:

  1. Click on the Page Layout tab
  2. Under Sheet Options, uncheck the Print box under Gridlines
  3. Go to File > Print to preview your sheet without gridlines
