Human remains of missing man found in Kwale forest

Police in Kwale recovered human remains believed to belong to a 39-year-old man who went missing about two weeks ago.

The remains were discovered on Monday morning in a forested area in Kasemeni Sub-location, Mwereni Location, Lungalunga Sub-County.

According to police, locals reported the discovery at about 7:40am, prompting officers to visit the scene.

Police found a human skull and, after searching the surrounding area, recovered several bones, tattered clothes, a pair of shoes and a belt.

Residents from neighbouring villages identified the remains as those of Nyanje Ruwa Nyanje, a 39-year-old man who lived in Mwakalanga Village and had reportedly gone missing on August 3.

Among those who identified the remains were his brother-in-laws.

Police said the skull had a deep cut wound on the scalp, raising suspicion that the man may have been murdered before his remains were dumped at the scene.

Investigators further suspect that wild animals may have fed on the body, leaving scattered skeletal remains.

The scene was photographed and processed before the remains were collected and taken to Coast General Hospital for preservation, detailed autopsy and further sampling.

And police in Kirinyaga launched investigations into the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found beside a feeder road near a church in Kiunga Village, Mwea West Sub-County.

The body of Joseph Gachau Kariuki was discovered at about 10am on Monday, August 17, near the fence of ACK Kiunga Church in Kiunga Sub-location, Kinyaga Location, about three kilometres north of Kiamaciri Police Station.

Police said the discovery was reported prompting officers to rush to the scene.

Kariuki’s body was found lying beside the feeder road. Preliminary examination indicated that he had multiple bruises on both hands, although the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kerugoya processed and documented the scene before the body was removed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Detectives are expected to use the post-mortem findings and other evidence to establish the cause and circumstances of Kariuki’s death.
