Hyundai Motors Quietly Exits Kenya, Leaves Buyers Suffering with No Support

Hyundai Motors Kenya quietly exited the country few weeks ago without informing its clients who bought vehicles and are still covered by warranty on what they need to do.

According to some buyers, the company’s premises was found deserted one day in September with no clear explanation and official communication networks disconnected.

It is unclear why the company exited the country in a huff but now many individuals and other legal entities which purchased the vehicles from the South Korean company are suffering.

Most of the brand new cars had warranty covering 100,000 Kilometres or 5 years, whichever came first. Now most of the buyers don’t know who might be able to support them with many waiting to see if the company will communicate with them. The buyers also fears voiding the warranty if they use unauthorised technicians to service the vehicles.

Calls to the South Korean embassy in Nairobi have not been helpful with staff telling the concerned buyers that the embassy can’t help them much.
