Iga Świątek, born in Warsaw, Poland on May 31, 2001, is a prominent professional tennis player celebrated for her athleticism and precision.

Coached by Tomasz Wiktorowski, she transitioned from a successful junior career, including wins at the French Open girls’ doubles and Wimbledon girls’ singles in 2018, to dominating the WTA Tour.

Iga is considered to be the best female tennis player in the first generation to compete largely after Serena Williams’s dominating reign at the top of tennis.

Świątek’s achievements include holding the world No. 1 ranking for 125 weeks, making her seventh on the all-time list, and securing 22 WTA Tour-level singles titles.

Siblings

Iga has one older sister named Agata. Agata initially pursued swimming before switching to tennis, taking inspiration from their father’s athletic background.

However, her tennis career was cut short due to injuries, leading her to focus on academics instead.

Agata followed in their mother’s footsteps and is now a dentist, having studied at the Medical University of Lublin.

Career

Świątek began her professional tennis career in 2016 and quickly rose through the ranks with her strong baseline game and aggressive style.

Through 2018, she won all seven ITF singles finals she reached.

Świątek’s early career highlights include winning her first WTA Tour title at Adelaide and her first WTA 1000-title at the Italian Open in 2021.

In May 2024, at the Italian Open, she beat Aryna Sabalenka, becoming the most successful Polish tennis player in terms of the number of titles won, surpassing Agnieszka Radwańska with 21.

Świątek has claimed five titles in 2024, winning Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. She has crossed $30 million in prize money and qualified for her fourth WTA Finals.

She has won ten WTA 1000 titles, including the Italian Open in 2021, and multiple titles in Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.

Świątek became the third female player after Serena Williams and Dinara Safina to complete the Madrid-Rome sweep.
