Iga Świątek, born in Warsaw, Poland on May 31, 2001, is a prominent professional tennis player celebrated for her athleticism and precision.

Coached by Tomasz Wiktorowski, she transitioned from a successful junior career, including wins at the French Open girls’ doubles and Wimbledon girls’ singles in 2018, to dominating the WTA Tour.

Iga is considered to be the best female tennis player in the first generation to compete largely after Serena Williams’s dominating reign at the top of tennis.

Świątek’s achievements include holding the world No. 1 ranking for 125 weeks, making her seventh on the all-time list, and securing 22 WTA Tour-level singles titles.

Siblings

Iga has one older sister named Agata. Agata initially pursued swimming before switching to tennis, taking inspiration from their father’s athletic background.

However, her tennis career was cut short due to injuries, leading her to focus on academics instead.

Agata followed in their mother’s footsteps and is now a dentist, having studied at the Medical University of Lublin.

Career

Świątek began her professional tennis career in 2016 and quickly rose through the ranks with her strong baseline game and aggressive style.

Through 2018, she won all seven ITF singles finals she reached.

Świątek’s early career highlights include winning her first WTA Tour title at Adelaide and her first WTA 1000-title at the Italian Open in 2021.

Świątek’s cemented her early promise in the 2022 season and secured herself the top spot in the WTA singles rankings.

During that year, she won the French Open and the U.S. Open.

Between February and June 2022, she had a 37-match winning streak and won six consecutive tournaments.

She reached the world No. 1 singles ranking, becoming the youngest woman to complete the Sunshine Double. She finished 2022 as year-end No. 1, posting a 67–9 record, the most wins in a single season since 2013.

In 2023, Świątek won a tour-best six titles, including a second consecutive French Open title and the WTA Finals.

In 2024, she won her third consecutive French Open title. She also won multiple WTA 1000 titles and a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

In May 2024, at the Italian Open, she beat Aryna Sabalenka, becoming the most successful Polish tennis player in terms of the number of titles won, surpassing Agnieszka Radwańska with 21.

Świątek has claimed five titles in 2024, winning Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. She has crossed $30 million in prize money and qualified for her fourth WTA Finals.

Świątek’s career is marked by numerous accolades, reflecting her dominance and impact on the sport.

Key titles include four French Open titles (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024) and one US Open title (2022).

She became the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 to win both the French Open and US Open in the same season, and in 2024 Świątek won her third consecutive French Open title.

Świątek won the WTA Finals in 2023, defeating Jessica Pegula, and did not lose a single match in the tournament, emulating Serena Williams’ 2012 feat by not dropping a set throughout the tournament.

She has won ten WTA 1000 titles, including the Italian Open in 2021, and multiple titles in Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.

Świątek became the third female player after Serena Williams and Dinara Safina to complete the Madrid-Rome sweep.

Świątek reached the world No. 1 singles ranking and became the youngest woman to complete the Sunshine Double.

She began and ended 2023 as the number one-ranked WTA player. She had a 37-match winning streak, the longest in the 21st century.

Świątek is the most successful Polish tennis player in terms of the number of titles won, surpassing Agnieszka Radwańska with 21 titles.

She is also the first Polish tennis player to medal at the Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
