Indian Intelligence Detects Pakistani Bayraktar TB2 Drones Along LoC

Indian intelligence agencies have detected the presence of Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles operated by Pakistan near the Line of Control. The detection was reported in late August 2026, and the drones are being used for border reconnaissance missions targeting Indian Army positions along the disputed border.

According to intelligence assessments, Pakistan is employing these UAVs to track Indian troop movements and gather critical border intelligence. The Bayraktar TB2 is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance tactical drone, and Pakistan officially inducted this platform into its armed forces around 2022. The drone is capable of remaining airborne for up to 27 hours at altitudes approaching 27,000 feet, and it is equipped with electro-optical and infrared sensors for high-resolution, real-time surveillance. While the platform is designed primarily for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, it can also carry out targeted strike missions.

Recent intelligence reports further indicate that the Pakistani military is establishing ground control stations and mobile launch systems within Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. These logistical hubs are reportedly being positioned in strategic sectors such as Muzaffarabad and Kotli. Placing control infrastructure closer to the LoC reduces drone transit time, thereby maximizing loitering time over sensitive border zones.

This deployment is seen as part of Pakistan’s military strategy following Operation Sindoor. In response to these evolving aerial threats, India is investing in counter-drone technologies, surface-to-air missile systems, and air defence networks along the border.
