Ishan Pranav Kumar Pandey Kishan, commonly known as Ishan Kishan, is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a left-handed wicket-keeper batsman.
Born on 18 July 1998 in Patna, Bihar, he hails from a family with roots in the region and later represented Jharkhand in domestic cricket due to registration issues involving the Bihar Cricket Association and the BCCI.
He has represented India across all formats, captained the India Under-19 side, and featured in the Indian Premier League for franchises including Gujarat Lions, Mumbai Indians, and later Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Known for his explosive stroke play, particularly in limited-overs cricket, Kishan has established himself as a dynamic presence in modern Indian cricket.
Siblings
Ishan has one sibling, an elder brother named Raj Kishan.
Raj was also a talented cricketer in his youth and played at the state level, but he chose to set aside his own sporting ambitions to focus on academics and support the family.
Coming from a middle-class background where resources limited the possibility of both brothers pursuing cricket professionally, Raj stepped back after the 10th standard.
He went on to become a doctor, working as a general surgeon, and has remained a strong pillar of support for Ishan throughout his career.
Career
Kishan’s professional journey began in domestic cricket for Jharkhand, where he made his first-class debut at a young age and quickly impressed with solid performances.
He led the India Under-19 team at the 2016 World Cup, guiding the side to the final.

In the Indian Premier League, he started with Gujarat Lions before moving to Mumbai Indians, where he enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2020 by scoring heavily and helping the team claim the title.
He later joined Sunrisers Hyderabad and took on stand-in captaincy duties during parts of recent seasons.
On the international stage, Kishan made his T20I debut against England in March 2021, followed by his ODI debut against Sri Lanka later that year and his Test debut against the West Indies in 2023.
A defining moment came in December 2022 when he scored 210 off 131 balls against Bangladesh in an ODI, becoming the youngest player to score an ODI double century and achieving it in the fewest deliveries at the time.
He contributed to India’s successful campaigns in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Domestically, he captained Jharkhand to their first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, topping the run charts and scoring a century in the final.
His career has featured periods of high performance interspersed with challenges, including time away from the national side, followed by strong domestic returns that led to recalls.
Accolades
Among Kishan’s notable achievements is holding the record for the fastest ODI double century, scored against Bangladesh in 2022, while also becoming the youngest player to reach that milestone and the first to convert a maiden ODI hundred into a double century.
He was part of the Indian squads that won the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
In the IPL, he earned recognition as Mumbai Indians’ highest run-scorer in the 2020 season and claimed the award for most sixes that year.
As captain of Jharkhand, he led the side to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title and became the first captain to score a century in the final of that competition.
Earlier, he captained India to the final of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup.
