Teen Boxer Isis Sio in Coma After First-Round Knockout Loss in California
Rising American boxer Isis Sio is in a medically induced coma after suffering serious injuries during a first-round knockout defeat on Saturday, March 21.
The 19-year-old junior flyweight collapsed just 78 seconds into her bout against unbeaten opponent Jocelyn Camarillo at the National Orange Show Event Center in San Bernardino, California. The fight was part of a ProBoxTV card promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
Sio went down after absorbing a series of head shots early in the opening round and failed to regain consciousness, prompting an immediate stoppage.
Medical personnel rushed into the ring to attend to the young fighter before she was stretchered out of the venue. Witnesses reported that she showed signs of convulsions as she was transported to Loma Linda University Health Medical Center for urgent treatment.
Condition Confirmed by Promoters
In a statement released on Sunday, ProBoxTV confirmed the seriousness of the situation.
“Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma,” the promotion said. “Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.”
ProBoxTV CEO Garry Jonas also expressed hope for her recovery.
Camarillo, who improved her record to 7-0 with the win, shared a message of support for her opponent following the bout.
“Grateful for the moment, but my heart is with Isis and keeping her in my prayers and wishing her a full recovery,” she said.
The victory marked the first stoppage win of Camarillo’s professional career.
Sio, who turned professional in September 2025, was considered part of a new generation of young fighters entering the sport. The North Dakota native had compiled a 1-3 record and was competing in the light flyweight division.
Saturday’s bout was her second consecutive knockout loss, raising fresh concerns about fighter safety, particularly among young and developing athletes.
