Jacob Fearnley is a British professional tennis player born on 15 July 2001 in Worcester, England.
At the age of two he moved with his family to Dalkeith, just south of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he grew up and first developed his love of the sport.
The right-handed player began hitting balls as a young child in his grandfather’s back garden and on local courts, inspired by his mother and grandfather, both keen tennis enthusiasts.
He attended Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh before heading to the United States to study kinesiology and compete in college tennis at Texas Christian University.
Fearnley turned professional after his college career and has established himself on the ATP Tour, representing Great Britain and achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 49.
Siblings
Jacob has a half-brother named James.
During a press conference at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Fearnley mentioned that his half-brother James would be among the family members supporting him in the stands, alongside his mother and, he hoped, his father.
His parents are Samantha, formerly a human resources manager at the National Health Service, and Craig, who worked for Johnson Controls; both are now retired and have been strong supporters of his career.
Career
Fearnley started playing tennis around the age of three or four.
After developing his game in Scotland, he chose the American college route rather than turning professional immediately after school.

At Texas Christian University he competed for the Horned Frogs under coach David Roditi, earning consistent recognition while helping the team to major successes, including back-to-back ITA Indoor National Championships and the school’s first NCAA Division I men’s tennis team title in 2024.
Upon leaving college he launched into the professional ranks with rapid progress.
In 2024 he captured his first ATP Challenger singles title at the Nottingham Open as a qualifier and went on to win further Challenger titles that year, climbing hundreds of places in the rankings to enter the top 100.
He made his Grand Slam main-draw debut at Wimbledon in 2024, winning a match before facing Novak Djokovic on Centre Court.
In 2025 he reached the third round at both the Australian Open and the French Open, made his Davis Cup debut for Great Britain with a win over Kei Nishikori, and recorded further notable results on the ATP Tour, including a first ATP quarter-final appearance.
By mid-2025 he had attained a career-high ranking of No. 49.
Accolades
During his college years Fearnley earned All-Big 12 and All-America honours in each of his four seasons, topped the doubles rankings at times, and contributed to TCU’s rise to the No. 1 team ranking along with the indoor national titles and the 2024 NCAA championship.
On the professional circuit his breakthrough 2024 season featured multiple ATP Challenger titles, including the Nottingham Open, and one of the largest single-year ranking climbs into the top 100 in recent ATP history.
He has reached the third round of two Grand Slam tournaments, made a Davis Cup debut with a victory, and achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 49 in June 2025, along with a doubles ranking of No. 211.
