Jamii Telecom is said to be in the process of launching a Fibre-to-Home network. According to a blog post on Balancing Act, the company will team up with Wananchi to launch the GPON network in the near future. The company looks to tap the high bandwidth market with VOIP, Video, Security and social media applications services.
We know that most of the big Telecos and mostly the onest offering cellular services have grabbed much of the Wireless spectrum, John Kamau who is the GM of Jamii Telecom told Balancing Act, ”We asked ourselves what is the next big application? We can’t go for more spectrum (to deliver wirelessly). The mobile operators already have an edge there. So we though a GPON network enabling FTTH would draw new excitement.”
The company has been doing trials with 200 households in the last 18 months. The network looks to deliver 2.4 Gbps downstream and 1.25 Gbps upstream. The users will be offered upto 100Mbps connections.
