Jan Maciej Błachowicz, born on February 24, 1983, in Cieszyn, Poland, is a renowned Polish professional mixed martial artist who competes in the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
From a young age, Błachowicz was drawn to martial arts, beginning with judo at nine years old, inspired by action films, before expanding into grappling and Muay Thai, where he achieved notable success in amateur competitions.
He transitioned to professional MMA in 2007 and has built a career marked by resilience and striking power.
On a personal note, Błachowicz is the son of Stanisław Błachowicz and Krystyna Błachowicz, and he shares a close bond with fellow fighter Tomasz Drwal.
Siblings
Jan has one sibling, his older brother Wojciech Błachowicz, who has spoken publicly about Jan’s early challenges in pursuing a career in MMA during a time when the sport was virtually nonexistent in Poland and offered little financial promise.
Growing up together, the brothers shared a modest background that shaped Jan’s determination, with Wojciech recalling the improbability of making a living from fighting in their homeland.
Career
Błachowicz’s professional MMA journey began in 2007, primarily in Europe, where he quickly made a name for himself in the Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki organization by winning the inaugural KSW Light Heavyweight Tournament at KSW 9 in 2008 through a series of victories including a unanimous decision over Martin Zawada, an armbar submission against Antoni Chmielewski, and securing the crown.
He repeated this success by claiming the 2008 and 2010 KSW Light Heavyweight Tournaments and became the KSW Light Heavyweight Champion in 2011 with a unanimous decision rematch win over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, defending the title twice against Houston Alexander and Goran Reljic.
Entering the UFC in 2014 with a 17-3 record, Błachowicz debuted with a TKO victory over Ilir Latifi but faced early setbacks, including losses to Jimi Manuwa, Corey Anderson, Alexander Gustafsson, Patrick Cummins, and Thiago Santos, starting his UFC tenure at 2-4.

This streak culminated in capturing the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with a second-round TKO over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 in 2020, followed by a successful title defense via unanimous decision against Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 in 2021, marking Adesanya’s first UFC loss.
Błachowicz lost the belt via rear-naked choke submission to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267 in 2021, but continued competing with a TKO win over Aleksandar Rakić in 2022, a split draw against Magomed Ankalaev for the vacant title at UFC 282 in 2022, a split decision loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 291 in 2023, a unanimous decision loss to Carlos Ulberg at UFC Fight Night 255 in 2025, and a majority draw with Bogdan Guskov at UFC 323 in 2025.
As of late 2025, he holds a professional record of 29 wins, 11 losses, and 2 draws, ranking fifth in the UFC light heavyweight division.
