Career
Oblak began his football journey in his hometown with local club Ločan before moving to Olimpija Ljubljana as a youngster.
His talent quickly caught the eye, leading to a transfer to Portuguese giants Benfica in 2010 at the age of 17.
After loan spells at clubs like Beira-Mar, Olhanense, and União de Leiria to gain experience, he broke through as Benfica’s first-choice goalkeeper, contributing to a domestic treble in the 2013-14 season that included the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, and Taça da Liga.
In July 2014, Atlético Madrid signed him for a then-club-record €16 million.
Initially serving as backup, Oblak seized the starting role and has since become one of the club’s all-time greats.
He has helped Atlético win major honors, including the 2017-18 UEFA Europa League and the 2020-21 La Liga title.
