Jason Bonham is an English drummer born on July 15, 1966, in Dudley, England.
He is best known as the son of the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who passed away in 1980 when Jason was just 14 years old.
From a young age, Jason showed remarkable talent on the drums, beginning to play at around four or five years old and even appearing with his father in the Led Zeppelin concert film The Song Remains the Same on a scaled-down kit.
He has carved out a successful career in his own right as a rock drummer, session musician, and bandleader while honoring his father’s legacy.
Siblings
Bonham has one sibling, a younger sister named Zoe Bonham.
The two were raised together in the village of Cutnall Green in Worcestershire, England, by their mother, Patricia “Pat” Phillips, following their father’s untimely death.
Jason and Zoe have remained close over the years and have often represented their father at major honors for Led Zeppelin.
In 1995, they stood together when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They also appeared side by side when Led Zeppelin received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2005.
Career
Bonham’s career has spanned decades, beginning in earnest in his late teens.
He joined the band Air Race at age 17, which signed with Atlantic Records and opened for major acts including Queen, Meat Loaf, Ted Nugent, and AC/DC.

In 1988, he famously filled his father’s role for the televised Led Zeppelin reunion at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert alongside Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones.
That same year, he toured and recorded with Jimmy Page on the album Outrider.
By 1989, Jason formed his own band, Bonham, releasing the albums The Disregard of Timekeeping and Mad Hatter.
He has since pursued solo projects, collaborated on albums with his aunt Deborah Bonham (John Bonham’s younger sister), and drummed for the hard rock band UFO.
Jason has also been a member of the supergroup Black Country Communion and performed with acts such as Foreigner, Sammy Hagar and the Circle, Paul Rodgers, Joe Bonamassa, Peter Frampton, and Heart.
One of his most notable recent endeavors is leading Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening, a highly acclaimed tribute show that faithfully recreates Led Zeppelin’s music live.
He performed with the surviving Led Zeppelin members at the 2007 O2 Arena reunion concert in London and delivered a powerful performance of “Stairway to Heaven” at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors alongside Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart.
Accolades
Bonham shared in Led Zeppelin’s 1995 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, where he and Zoe accepted the honor on behalf of their father.
In 2005, he and Zoe again represented the family when Led Zeppelin received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jason contributed to the 2012 Grammy-winning album Celebration Day, which captured the 2007 Led Zeppelin reunion concert and earned Best Rock Album.
