Jetways Airline has lost its operating license pending investigations after it was said to have put at risk security at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

On Tuesday, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) temporarily closed air-side access to the Jetways facility to allow investigations into claims of illegal and irregular activities in the premises.

“We in KAA take safety and security seriously and wish to assure the public that we take all the concerns with the importance they deserve,” Corporate Communications Manager Angela Tilitei said.

Director General Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Gilbert Kibe warned that action will be taken against the airline should they be found guilty of breach in security.

The Standard reports that security manager of Kenya Airways’ cargo sector, Kenneth Yego was arrested on suspicion that tipped off journalists on the security gap.

But Kahawa Tungu had earlier reported that Captain Kibe had been working to the advantage of Jetways and Skyward which have cargo aircraft. In fact, his son, a source intimated, is a pilot working at Skyward.

Jetways was also accused of benefiting from Kibe’s illegal grounding of aircraft at the Wilson Airport.

Apparently, the daily says, the national carrier’s employees are being intimidated in a wider cover-up as family members of a top official are said to be staff of Jetways.
