Former Presidential Aspirant Cyrus Jirongo was on Tuesday arrested and is currently being held at Muthangari Police Station.

The former Lugari MP was apprehended for allegedly failing to pay a Sh20 million debt owed to businessman Brian Yongo.

In August the High Court in Nairobi issued a warrant of arrest against Jirongo and in a letter to Muthangari OCS on August 7, the deputy registrar directed that he be arrested for failing to pay the outstanding amount.

“These are to command you to arrest the said J/D and unless the sum of Ksh.20 million as noted in the margin, together with the executing officers expenses fees. If any, to bring the said debtor before the court with all convenient speed,” reads the order in part.

Yongo says Jirongo has only paid Sh5 million of the Sh25 million loan advanced to him between 2014 and 2015.

In 2017 the former legislator was declared bankrupt after High Court Judge Olga Sewe  found that he was unable to service his debts.

“The court hereby orders that Mr Jirongo, a businessman, be adjudged bankrupt,” read the court order.

The bankruptcy application against Mr Jirongo had been filed by the companies, which included Masole Ltd, Baia Enterprises Ltd, Gilera Ltd, Koti Developers, Saman Developers Ltd, Kenete Enterprises Ltd, Marimio Enterprises Ltd, and Linsala Enterprises Ltd.
