Jofra Chioke Archer is an English international cricketer born on 1 April 1995 in Bridgetown, Barbados.
A right-arm fast bowler known for his pace, accuracy and ability to generate bounce, he represents England across all formats of the game.
He holds British citizenship through his English father, Frank Archer, a former London Underground driver, while his mother, Joelle Waithe, is Barbadian.
Raised primarily in Barbados after his parents separated when he was three, Archer attended Christ Church Foundation School.
He moved to England in 2015 and established himself as a key figure in the national side after qualifying under revised residency rules.
Siblings
Jofra has no biological siblings and is the only child of his parents, Frank Archer and Joelle Waithe.
He has a stepsister named Tsedale Waithe, the daughter of his stepfather, Patrick Waithe, who married Joelle and played an important role in nurturing Archer’s early cricket development in Barbados.
Tsedale pursued studies in physics and biology, attending Barbados Community College and the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
She has worked in roles including passenger service, quality assurance and trade marketing in Barbados.
Career
Archer began his professional journey after representing the West Indies Under-19 side.
He joined Sussex in 2016, making his first-class debut that July against Pakistan and quickly impressing with his pace.

He gained experience in T20 leagues, including stints with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, Khulna Titans, Quetta Gladiators and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, where he debuted in 2018.
England selected him in 2019 following a change in eligibility rules.
He made his ODI debut against Ireland on 3 May 2019 and his T20I debut against Pakistan two days later.
Archer featured in every match of England’s victorious 2019 Cricket World Cup campaign and bowled the decisive Super Over in the final against New Zealand.
He made his Test debut during the 2019 Ashes series against Australia at Lord’s.
He produced notable performances during the series, including figures of 6 for 45 in the third Test.
Injuries, particularly elbow and back problems, limited his appearances in subsequent years and caused him to miss significant periods between 2021 and 2023.
He later returned to international cricket and continued to feature in white-ball and Test formats while remaining active in franchise cricket.
His franchise teams have included Mumbai Indians, Southern Brave and Rajasthan Royals.
As of recent records, Archer has played Tests, ODIs and T20Is for England, contributing performances with both pace and wicket-taking ability when available.
Accolades
Archer was part of the England squad that won the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, taking 20 wickets during the tournament.
He was also named in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament and recognised as one of the rising stars of England’s successful campaign.
In April 2020, Archer was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year.
During the 2020 Indian Premier League, he won the Most Valuable Player award despite Rajasthan Royals finishing at the bottom of the table.
He has earned Player of the Match honours in international fixtures and recorded career-best figures of 6 for 45 in Tests and 6 for 40 in ODIs.
