John Andersson Klingberg is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenseman who currently plays for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on August 14, 1992, in Gothenburg, Sweden, he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 185 pounds.
Klingberg is known for his offensive-minded style of play, strong skating ability, puck-handling skills, and vision that allows him to contribute significantly from the blue line.

Career
Klingberg developed his skills in Sweden, playing junior hockey and eventually making his way to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Frölunda HC.
He helped the team win the Le Mat Trophy as SHL champions in 2013.
After being drafted by the Dallas Stars, he chose to continue developing in Sweden before making the jump to North America.
He made his NHL debut with the Stars in November 2014 and quickly made an impact, recording 40 points (11 goals and 29 assists) in 65 games during his rookie season.
Over more than a decade with the Stars, Klingberg established himself as a key part of their defense and power play.
He played in over 600 games for Dallas before becoming a free agent and later signing with other teams, including a stint that brought him to the San Jose Sharks.
As of the 2025-26 season, he has appeared in approximately 700 NHL regular-season games, accumulating around 92 goals and 351 assists for 443 points.
His career has included battles with injuries, particularly hip issues, but he has shown resilience and continued to contribute offensively while adapting his game.
Accolades
In the NHL, Klingberg was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2015 and selected to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game.
Internationally, he has represented Sweden with distinction, winning gold medals at the IIHF World Championships in 2017 and 2018, and earning recognition as the Best Defenseman at the 2018 tournament.
In Sweden, he was part of Frölunda’s SHL championship team in 2013.
