The Jubilee Party has distanced itself from a Bill drafted by Tiaty MP, Kassait Kamket seeking to create a Prime Minister’s position and a one term President.
Clarifying the ruling regime’s position, leader of majority in the National Assembly, Aden Duale says that the aforementioned legislator is not a member of Jubilee but KANU.
Duale faults the media for misreporting and not getting their facts right before carrying a story.
“I therefore caution the media to desist from misreporting on such matters by ensuring they come out with the correct information and facts as opposed to using the ruling Jubilee party in sensationalizing their reporting for purposes of capturing their market,” the Garissa Town MP says.
The proposed constitutional amendment bill, Duale emphasized was drafted by Mr Kamket in his ‘private capacity just like any other member of parliament is expected to do.’
The MP proposes that the PM position be filled by an elected MP and has executive powers; be the leader of government business.
The President he proposes should serve a single seven year term and will have ceremonial powers.

“The Bill seeks to amend the constitution to limit the president to a ceremonial role of Head of State and a symbol of national unity.”
He also proposes that the Deputy President position be done away with and county assemblies elect two senators, each of the opposite gender.
