KAAFormer Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) security guard Daizy Cherogony is still being scrutinized following an incident involving Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i back in April.

Cherogony is accused of mistreating CS Matiang’i and as a result she was sacked from her job at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The former security guard opted to file a memorandum of claim at the Nyeri Labour Court and is claiming Sh40.9 million court over ‘wrongful and unfair dismissal’

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has called upon the court to dismiss the case. Through their lawyer Lorraine Oyombe they claim Cherogony breached its company policy.

“The claimant denied ever seeing the CS at the glass door and that if she had seen him, being a VIP she would have facilitated him as per the security procedures,” said Ms Oyombe.

CS Matiang’i almost missed his flight to Kisumu as a result of the former security guards actions .

“The claimant was issued with a show cause letter. She was informed that it had been reported that she had uttered the words ‘I do not care who you are…you have to queue like all other passengers’ even after the Cabinet Secretary had introduced himself,” Oymobe added.

She says there is CCTV footage of the incident showing the former security guard ignoring the CS.

“The footage showed the claimant ignoring the CS who was right in front of her and instead beckoning to passengers who were lined behind him. She said she was concentrating on other passengers and thus she did not look up,” added the lawyer.

KAA are awaiting a response from Cherogony before November 15.
