Kalenna Harper is an American singer-songwriter, television personality, and record producer born Kalenna LaShante Harper on August 13, 1982, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She later became known professionally as Kalenna Vick after her marriage.

Raised in a musically inclined family—her mother, Donna Harper, was a vocalist, and her father, Randy Howard, worked as an emcee and served in the military—Harper grew up exposed to diverse influences due to frequent relocations from her father’s career.

She began pursuing music early, taking vocal lessons at age nine and developing her talents through gospel singing and local studio work during high school.

Harper is married to producer and manager Tony Vick since 2009, and the couple has four children: sons Meshach, Noah, and Gabriel, and daughter Savannah.

Siblings

Harper has one sibling, a sister named Nia Ali.

Nia is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 m hurdles, heptathlon, and other events.

She is the 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist in the 100-meter hurdles, the 2019 World champion in the 100-meter hurdles, and twice in a row world indoor champion (2014 Sopot and 2016 Portland) in 60 meters hurdles.

Career

Harper’s career began in the mid-2000s as a songwriter and background contributor to various R&B and hip-hop projects.

She gained early credits by penning or co-writing songs for artists including Christina Milian (“Peanut Butter & Jelly”), Charlotte Church (“Moodswings (To Come at Me Like That)”), Ciara (“Pucker Up”), and others such as Aretha Franklin, Fantasia, Trina, and Three 6 Mafia.

In 2009, she rose to prominence as a member of the trio Diddy – Dirty Money, formed with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Dawn Richard.

Signed to Bad Boy Records and Interscope, the group released their debut album Last Train to Paris in 2010, which blended hip-hop and R&B elements and achieved commercial success, peaking at number seven on the Billboard 200.

Key singles like “Coming Home” (featuring Skylar Grey), which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Hello Good Morning” (featuring T.I.) helped define their sound.

Following the group’s run through 2012, Harper appeared as a supporting cast member on the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta from 2014 to 2015, sharing aspects of her personal life and music pursuits.

She has continued independent work as a solo artist, songwriter, and creative, while maintaining a presence in the industry through collaborations and personal projects.

Accolades

As part of Diddy – Dirty Money, Harper received a nomination for Best Group at the 2010 BET Awards and later secured the BET Award for Best Group in 2011.

The group also won a Russian Music Award, and Harper has been credited with additional Russian Grammy Awards (sometimes referred to as Russian Music Awards) for her broader work in the industry.

Her songwriting credits on successful tracks and albums have further solidified her reputation, though her accolades remain most prominently associated with the breakthrough success of Last Train to Paris and the group’s impact on contemporary R&B and hip-hop.
