The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) moved to reassure airlines, passengers, and industry stakeholders that aviation operations remain uninterrupted following a notice of intended industrial action by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, KCAA confirmed it had received the notice dated February 9, 2026, and said it was handling the matter in line with the Constitution, the Labour Relations Act, 2007, and relevant government labour policies.

The Authority said it had already initiated engagements with the Union through established consultative frameworks aimed at resolving the issues raised amicably and in good faith.

It emphasized that dialogue remains the preferred avenue for addressing labour-related concerns, with conciliation mechanisms available where necessary.

KCAA noted that it performs functions classified as essential services under the law, underscoring its responsibility to ensure the continuity of critical aviation safety and operational services.

The Authority said maintaining uninterrupted services is vital for public safety, national security, and economic stability.

“KCAA remains firmly committed to ensuring the continuity of critical aviation safety and operational services,” the Authority said, adding that all aviation services are currently being delivered as normal.

The regulator further assured airlines, passengers, and industry partners that there has been no disruption to flight operations across the country despite the notice of intended industrial action.

KCAA said it will continue engaging KAWU within the legal frameworks provided for under the law and will issue further updates through official channels as discussions progress.

The statement was signed by KCAA Director General Emile Arao.
