KDF soldier, civilian woman found dead in shooting at Kirimon Military Camp

Gunmen in Nigeria kill Muslim worshippers in 'reprisal attack'
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier and a woman were found dead following a shooting incident at Kirimon Military Camp in Laikipia County.
Officials at the facility said they heard gunshots coming from the officers’ accommodation block at around 5:20 a.m Sunday.
They rushed to the scene and discovered two lifeless bodies lying in a pool of blood between two double-decker beds inside the room.
Police later visited the scene alongside military police from Ngoisus Camp.
One of the deceased was identified as 25-year-old soldier Daniel Mburu Kinyanjui, while the other was a 28-year-old woman identified as Eunice Waruguru Kimani.
Investigators recovered an AK rifle loaded with 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition at the scene. Also found in the room were six AK-47 rifle magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, bringing the total to 180 rounds. Detectives recovered seven spent cartridges from different parts of the room.
During further search of the room, officers found a hard-cover exercise book containing an eight-page handwritten last testament believed to belong to the soldier. Also recovered were two smartphones — a Samsung (sky blue) and a Tecno Spark (grey) — a black VUC button phone, and a cofa bearing the particulars of Kinyanjui.
Preliminary examination indicated that the soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the head, while the woman had gunshot wounds on her left hand, face, and head.
Police said the motive of the shooting has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing under the Laikipia North Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office.
They ruled out suicide. Police and the military officials said they were investigating murder in the incident.
The bodies were moved to the Samburu County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Elsewhere in Bungoma’s Mechimeru area, a man killed his father aged 83 in an argument over money.
The deceased was identified as Khisa Waliaru. The assailant used a walking stick to strike him in the head fatally on Saturday night and stayed with the body for hours before he escaped.
The body was discovered on a bed with blood stains and moved to the mortuary.
The killer weapon was also lying next to the body. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt on the suspect.
