A soldier with the Kenya Defence Forces was Sunday killed in an accident in Kibokoni area along Mokowe-Witu road, Lamu County.
Police and military personnel said six other soldiers were injured in the accident.
This happened after the military Land Cruiser from Mokowe got a puncture on its left tyre. This forced the vehicle to roll and land in a ditch killing a soldier of the rank of Sergeant and injuring six others.
The injured were rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries. The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, officials said.
Both the military and the police said they are investigating the incident.
The military operates in the area for security reasons.
On Sunday, 10 people were killed in separate accidents in the country. They included five pedestrians and five riders. Police said the accidents left 14 people with serious injuries and they included five riders, three pedestrians, two drivers and two passengers.
Fatal accidents have been on the rise amid campaigns to address the menace. More than 300 people died in accidents between January 1 and 25. Police said more than 600 were injured in the incidents.
