KDN Metro Link Goes Down as Chief Marketing Officer Leaves

It seems like most of the KDN clients in Nairobi are experiencing downtime. Many users of M-Pesa, ATMs, Cyber cafe and corporate clients who have no backup connections have not had internet since 4pm on Sunday. David Kariuki of KDN says “We are experiencing some network loss in Industrial Area which may affect the areas you mentioned. Our techies are working on it though. Should be up within the hour.”

Five hours later, the connection seems to still be down. KDN is a major data carrier for local ISPs, Banks and other corporates serving a greater percentage of the Kenyan internet needs especially in major cities.

Meanwhile, Vincent Wang’ombe who was replaced by former Essar Kenya CEO Atul Shah, seems to be on his way out of the company. Word is that Vincent has already served KDN with a notice of intention to leave. He has been on leave for sometime now. He was suppose to return to his post sometime in June but KDN hired the services of the former Essar Kenya boss, Atul Chaturvedi.

It will be interesting to see how Atul will handle the post considering that Orange tried the foreign managers to handle their PR and Marketing and it failed miserably. In the Kenyan laws also it is illegal to hire foreigners for posts like Marketing.
