KEBS to Hold Countrywide Awareness Sessions on New Standards Levy

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has announced that it will hold awareness sessions for manufacturers and other stakeholders to explain the new monthly standards levy.
In a public notice issued on November 4, 2025, the bureau said the sessions will take place between November 12 and December 4 in seven towns across the country.
“Pursuant to Gazettement of the Standards (Standards Levy) Order, 2025 Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) intends to hold awareness sessions to all manufacturers and stakeholders to understand and comply with the requirement of Standards (Standards Levy) Order 2025, which mandates payment of Standards levy,” the notice reads.
According to the notice, the levy requires manufacturers to pay 0.2 percent of the customs value of their goods or services every month, excluding VAT, excise duty, and any discounts.
For the first five years, the maximum amount payable will be capped at Sh4 million per year, and the cap will rise to Sh6 million thereafter.
The first awareness meeting will be held on November 12 at Jacaranda Hotel in Nairobi. Subsequent sessions are scheduled for November 18 at Eagle Place in Nakuru, November 20 at Premium Inn Suites in Mombasa, November 25 at White Rhino Hotel in Nyeri, and November 27 at Sirikwa Hotel in Eldoret. The final meetings will take place on December 2 at Government Guest House in Garissa and December 4 at Sarova Imperial Hotel in Kisumu. All sessions will run from 9 am to 3 pm.
