KenGen advertises Managing Director and CEO position

The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has advertised the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO), inviting qualified candidates to apply.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, KenGen said interested candidates can access the full job description, qualifications and specifications on the company’s careers website.

Applicants are required to submit an application letter, detailed curriculum vitae and copies of their certificates physically to the Chairman of the Board at the Chairman’s Office, Stima Plaza, Pension Plaza II, 10th Floor, P.O. Box 47936-00100, Nairobi.

The applications should be clearly titled and referenced “Application for the Position of Managing Director & CEO, Ref: KenGen/MD&CEO/01/08/2026.”

The deadline for applications is September 8, 2026, at 5 p.m.

“Canvassing and falsifying or misrepresentation of qualifications will lead to automatic disqualification,” KenGen said.

The company said only shortlisted candidates would be contacted.

KenGen has also encouraged women, persons with disabilities and applicants from marginalised areas to apply for the position.

Successful candidates will be required to present clearance certificates and reports in line with Chapter Six of the Constitution.

These include a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a valid clearance certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a valid tax compliance certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a current clearance certificate from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and a current report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

The successful candidate will take charge of Kenya’s largest electricity generation company at a time when the country continues to expand its power generation capacity and strengthen the reliability of the national electricity supply.

The position is currently held by Peter Waweru Njenga, who took over as KenGen Managing Director and CEO in August 2023, succeeding Abraham Serem.
