KeNHA Orders Removal of Billboards and Structures Along Road to JKIA

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a 14-day ultimatum for the removal of all billboards, signboards, tree nurseries and temporary structures along the road from the James Gichuru Road Junction to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli said the move is to allow the start of capacity enhancement, landscaping and beautification works on the busy highway.

“All roadside developments within the road reserve on both sides of the road must be removed to pave the way for the project,” Kimeli said.

He warned that even billboards erected on private land must not extend into the road reserve.

“Billboards on private property should not overhang into the road reserve. Any such structures will be treated as encroachment,” he said.

KeNHA has directed all operators to remove the structures within 14 days from the date of the notice.

“After the deadline on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, any remaining structures will be removed without further notice, and the cost will be charged to the owners,” Kimeli said.
