Early Life
Kenny Chesney was born Kenneth Arnold Chesney on March 26, 1968, in Knoxville, Tennessee. His mother, Karen, worked as a hair stylist, while his father was an elementary school teacher. He grew up in Luttrell, Tennessee, alongside his younger sister, Jennifer.
Chesney developed an interest in music while growing up. He taught himself to play guitar after receiving one as a Christmas present. At Gibbs High School, he also played football and baseball before graduating in 1986.
He later attended East Tennessee State University, where he studied advertising and graduated in 1990. During his college years, Chesney joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and became involved with the university’s Bluegrass Program.
In 1989, he recorded a demo and sold about 1,000 copies while performing at clubs in Johnson City. After graduating, he moved to Nashville to pursue music professionally. He performed at local clubs and eventually became the resident performer at a honky-tonk called The Surf.
Music Career
Chesney’s professional career began to take shape in 1992 when he auditioned for Troy Tomlinson of Opryland Music Group. The audition resulted in a songwriter’s contract.

In 2000, Chesney and fellow country star Tim McGraw were arrested following an incident involving New York police officers.
The incident began after Chesney climbed onto a police horse and rode away. Chesney was charged with disorderly conduct, while McGraw faced an assault charge. Both men were acquitted the following year.
Love for Love City Foundation
