Kenya and Azerbaijan forge closer ties in justice and governance
Kenya and Azerbaijan have taken key steps toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of justice, governance, and institutional development, following a high-level meeting held at State House, Nairobi.
The meeting brought together President William Ruto, Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General MAliyev Kamran Bayram, and the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev.
Talks focused on deepening diplomatic engagement and establishing strategic partnerships between the two countries. Key areas of collaboration include reforming and modernizing prosecutorial systems, promoting transparency, and enhancing efforts to combat transnational crime and corruption.
Ruto welcomed the initiative, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to cultivating strong international partnerships that support its justice and governance agenda.
He emphasized the country’s openness to adopting global best practices and its willingness to collaborate with Azerbaijan in building robust, transparent, and resilient legal institutions.
“This collaboration reflects our dedication to global cooperation in justice and governance,” Ruto stated.
“We are committed to exchanging ideas and aligning with international standards to improve our legal systems and confront emerging cross-border challenges.”
Prosecutor General Aliyev’s visit comes ahead of the Heads of Prosecuting Authorities Conference, set to take place in Mombasa.
The conference will convene senior prosecutorial officials from around the world to share expertise, discuss legal innovations, and strengthen international cooperation in law enforcement.
“We are particularly keen to share knowledge and learn from each other on how to tackle crime, especially in this era of terrorism and technological advancement,” noted DPP Ingonga.
The engagement marks a significant step toward enhanced judicial cooperation between Kenya and Azerbaijan, signaling a broader commitment to regional and global collaboration in justice and governance.
