Vivo Energy Kenya Limited, which operates the Shell brand, led Kenya’s oil marketing companies with a 19.70% market share and sales of 1,246,943.33 cubic metres in the year ended June 30, 2026. Its share declined from 20.80% the previous year.
TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya Plc ranked second with 894,087.51 cubic metres, representing 14.12% of the market. Its share fell from 14.84% the previous year.
Rubis Energy Kenya Plc recorded sales of 888,772.62 cubic metres and a market share of 14.04%, down from 15.43% in the prior year. The top three companies — Vivo, TotalEnergies, and Rubis — collectively accounted for 47.86% of local sales of imported petroleum products, falling below 50% for the first time.
Ola Energy Kenya Limited held 3.56% of the market with sales of 225,266 cubic metres. Hass Petroleum Kenya Limited followed at 3.44%, up from 3.15% and seventh position the previous year.
Galana Energies Limited recorded a 3.35% market share, up from 3.21%. Be Energy Limited accounted for 3.11%.
Stabex International Ltd held a 2.84% market share with sales of 179,577.07 cubic metres. The company is owned by three businessmen. Jackson Kiplimo Chebett, the company’s chairman, is the largest shareholder with 925,000 ordinary shares. Abraham Kipkoech Korir, Director of Projects & Business Development, holds 50,000 shares, while Managing Director Daniel Kiprop Cherutich holds 25,000 shares. Chebett has described Stabex as a privately owned oil marketing company with over 200 retail stations and 14 bulk depots across East Africa. He is also a director and shareholder of Ultra Eureka Ltd, which acquired Raphael Tuju’s prime property in Karen through public auction.
Vitalac International Limited and Petro Oil Kenya Limited held 2.41% and 2.39% respectively, with sales of 152,337.04 cubic metres and 151,611.00 cubic metres.
Vitalac International Limited is led by Chief Executive Officer Abdinur Maalim, who took the role in 2023. He previously served as County Secretary at Mandera County Government from 2018 to 2022 and as Chairman of the Mandera County Public Service Board from 2013 to 2018.
Petro Oil Kenya Limited is a subsidiary of the Petro Group of Companies, founded by Alnoor Jiwan. The group owns and operates over 100 fuel stations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar, with its headquarters in Mombasa. Petro Group was established in 1989 by Alnoor Jiwan with a single fuel filling station.
The top 20 oil marketing companies collectively accounted for 84.97% of the market. The remaining 154 registered companies shared 15.03%. The number of registered oil marketing companies increased from 146 to 154 as of June 2026.
