Kenya Roads Board Advertises CEO/Director General Position; Here’s How to Apply

The Kenya Roads Board (KRB) has announced a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (Director General). In a public notice dated Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the board said it is looking for a qualified, experienced, and results-driven leader to manage the authority.
According to the notice, the Director General will serve as the accounting officer, providing strategic leadership and overall management of KRB. The role includes administering the Kenya Roads Board Fund, overseeing the maintenance, rehabilitation, and development of national roads, coordinating resource use, and advising the Cabinet Secretary on matters related to the road sector. The Director General will also lead the Fuel Levy Securitization Programme, implement the Road Sector Investment Programme (RSIP), manage the Road Inventory and Condition Surveys (RICS), and supervise the Annual Public Roads Programme (APRP).
“The Chief Executive Officer (Director General) is the accounting officer and is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall management of the Kenya Roads Board,” the notice reads.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage and coordinate the national road network, determine financial allocations to road agencies, oversee fuel levy securitization, advise the Cabinet Secretary, coordinate road classification reviews, and develop strategies to enhance road infrastructure efficiency and sustainability. The Director General will also provide leadership in strategic planning, budgeting, financial management, resource mobilization, human resource management, and represent KRB in national and international forums.
Applicants must have at least ten years’ experience in a relevant field, including five years in senior management. A university degree in finance, accounting, law, engineering, or a related field is required, with a master’s degree preferred. Professional qualifications and membership in recognized bodies are necessary where applicable. Candidates should also have completed a leadership course, possess a clear understanding of the road sector, and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate visionary and transformational leadership, strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to lead high-performing teams, knowledge of road infrastructure financing and public financial management, and a strong commitment to integrity, accountability, and transparency.
The Director General will serve a three-year term, eligible for reappointment for another three years. Remuneration and benefits will be set by the board in consultation with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
