The national Sevens Shujaa team will be wearing the “Make It Kenya” branded jerseys during the African Sevens tournament on October 13 and 14 in Jemmel,Tunisia.
This was announced on Wednesday when the team was flagged off by Brand Kenya Board Ag. CEO Floice Mukabana.
In attendance was the entire 12-man squad that will represent the country in the tournament, outgoing head coach Innocent Simiyu and his incoming replacement Paul Murunga, Kenya Rugby Union Ag. CEO Sylivia Kamau, as well as Team Manager Erick Ogweno.
“Your win is our win as a country. I am happy that you are all going out there with one voice to push our country’s flag even higher and position Kenya as the home of sporting talent,” said Ms Kamau.
The national team will be making a come-back in the Africa Cup Series after a one year absence. During the two-day tournament over the weekend, the team is seeded top and will face Botswana and Morocco in pool A.
Ag. KRU CEO Sylvia Kamau thanked Brand Kenya for the continued support and pledged to streamline operations and handle any impeding challenges amicably to avoid hiccups like the Paris scenario where players taped off Brand Kenya logo on their jerseys.
“We are happy that we still maintain a good relationship with this Board despite the recent setback. We are working on other long term initiatives like regular trainings of the players to ensure that they remain brand ambassadors for the country on and even off the pitch,” KRU Ag. CEO added.
Incoming Head Coach Paul Murunga urged all Kenyans to rally behind the team and boost their morale as they head to Tunisia to take on the world.

“We are going for the trophy. We have won this cup severally and are set for nothing less,” he said.
The 12-man squad that will play in the Africa Cup tournament include five new faces who are; the 2018 National Sevens Circuit MVP Daniel Taabu, his Mwamba team-mate Eliakim Kichoi, Derrick Keyoga of Menengai Oilers, Benjamin Marshall and Gramwell Bunyasi from Nakuru RFC.
Others who have made a comeback in the team include Homeboyz, winger Leonard Mugaisi, Alvin Otieno, Michael Wanjala, Charles Owino and Cyprian Kuto.
The trophy’s defending champions Uganda headline Pool B where they’ll meet Senegal and Ghana. Pool C has Zimbabwe, hosts Tunisia and Mauritius, while Pool D comprises of Madagascar, Namibia and Zambia.
Brand Kenya had signed a partnership pact earlier on in the year, making Shujaa players the official country’s brand ambassadors on local and global fronts.
