Key suspect in highway robbery arrested in police operation in Molo, Nakuru County
Police officers in Molo arrested a key suspect in a robbery with violence incident, where two men disguised in police jungle jackets stormed a petrol station and terrorised staff in a night raid.
The arrest followed a call reporting an ongoing robbery at Total Petrol Station, where the attackers, armed with crude weapons, pounced on the pump attendant and the watchman, tied them up with ropes, and ransacked the premises.
In a swift response, officers launched a manhunt for the fleeing duo, who vanished into the darkness after making away with cash, mobile phones, and personal valuables on December 28.
This led to the arrest of the first suspect, 55-year-old Joseph Daudi Bulinga.
A search conducted on the suspect saw officers recover a claw bar, a police smoke jacket, and a tear gas canister.
Meanwhile, a hot pursuit is underway for his accomplice, who remains on the run, police said.
Elsewhere, police in Malindi arrested 18 suspects in a crackdown targeting criminal gangs that have been terrorising residents in the town and its surrounding areas.
The police raid, conducted in Muyeye and Milano, saw officers recover stolen mobile phones, a television set, and crude weapons believed to have been used in the suspects’ violent escapades.
The suspects are in custody as investigators process them ahead of their arraignment.
And six suspects were apprehended by Law Enforcement Officers in connection with a highway robbery in Mbumbuni, in Mbooni East Sub-County.
The case is based on a report by a complainant who was travelling from Mbumbuni to Muuani on board a Probox.
On reaching Sofia Shopping Centre in Muuani, they were ambushed by a group of people, some on a motorcycle while others lurked by the roadside.
The gang hit the front windscreen using a shaving machine while displaying a toy gun, causing the driver to pull over.
They were attacked and sustained head injuries before being robbed of their cash and other valuables.
In a swift response, police officers from Mbumbuni Police Station launched a manhunt that eventually resulted in the arrest of Richard Muthoka, Mwenda Mutuku, Alex Musembi, James Musembi, Kevin Kioko, and Dennis Mambo.
A search along a footpath leading to the house of two of the suspects led to the recovery of a handbag of the complainant. Also recovered was a toy pistol from one of the suspects, Mwenda Mutuku.
The suspects were detained pending arraignment.
