William Mwangi, a Kiambu politician was on Saturday shot dead inside his car after leaving Club U-Turn at around 3 am.

Mwangi was vying for MCA Lari Kirenga on a Jubilee ticket but lost in the primaries.

According to the police, the engineer was shot twice in the head and on his hand.

Witnesses said that a police officer approached him and his friends in the club after watching football matches. The confrontation left the officer with an injured face.

The club Manager, George Karuga confirmed the same saying that the bouncers took the officer out of the bar.

A friend of the deceased said the officer had demanded for a beer from them but they declined.

“The problem started when the gentleman demanded to drink a bottle of beer but we asked him to pay for it. He asked us if we knew who he was and told him Kenya is a free country guarded by law. We didn’t know he was an officer.”

The unidentified friend left the establishment only to hear gun shots as he drove off.

“I drove off but I was called by one of our friends who told me Mwangi has been shot dead. I drove back.”

DCI Limuru, Mwenda Itheiba said they had arrested the suspect.

“The officer is in custody to help us with investigations,” he said.

The body was taken to Uplands Funeral Home where a postmortem will be conducted.
