Kindiki pushes for infrastructure fund to construct roads, generate electricity

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is pushing for quick approval of the Infrastructure Fund to enable the country to finance major infrastructure projects that will elevate the nation’s development status.

Prof. Kindiki said that through the Fund, President William Ruto’s government will construct an additional 10,000 kilometers of roads, 10,000 megawatts of electricity, and 50 mega dams, lifting Kenya’s socio-economic status higher, hence better livelihoods for the majority of Kenyans.

Speaking when he accompanied the President for a development tour of Machakos County on Friday, the DP said the country is on the right path to achieve first world status as promised by the Head of State.

“We must put in place the Infrastructure Fund to enable us to meet these demands. It will help us construct an additional 10, 000 kilometers of tarmac roads, 10, 000mw of electricity, 50 mega dams to help us irrigate our lands and produce more food and achieve other critical projects,” he said.

Kindiki called on Members of Parliament to support the proposal to establish the Fund once it is tabled for quicker implementation and for the targeted projects to come to fruition.

“I am requesting our lawmakers to support the Infrastructure Fund Bill when it is brought to Parliament for adoption so that we actualize these infrastructure projects and take our country forward and move it from third to first world,” he urged.

The DP said the government is keen on developing every part of the country without consideration of how they voted or religious persuasions.

“As the government we will develop the whole country. There is no part that will be left behind because of political, region or religious affiliation because Kenya is one. We are one country, one people. Every part of Kenya deserves roads, electricity, markets, water and other development activities,” he assured.

Ruto, on the third day of the development tour of Ukambani that has also taken him to Makueni, and Kitui Counties, assured residents that the government will hasten completion of all projects going on in the region.

He said Machakos alone has so far benefitted from Sh24 billion worth of projects ranging from roads, electricity, 15 modern markets and hostels promising more.

“We will ensure Machakos is equally developed like every other part of the country. We will not allow Machakos and Ukambani to lag behind again in development,” the President said when he launched construction of Kangundo-Mwala Road.
