The government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe has asked Kenyans to bear with the Chinese working in the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) amidst claims of racism and discrimination.
In his statement Kiraithe said that the Chinese were giving the Kenyans working on the SGR the ‘right mind set, a set of moral principles and workplace values to enable the rail to operate in perpetuity.’
He also stated that ‘Haki yetu centred’ personalities did not have a place in the running of the SGR either now or in future.
This statement indicated that SGR workers facing discrimination as highlighted should ignore their rights as workers and bear with the situations if they wanted to keep their jobs.
He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration had put in place measures to deal with the issue but failed to give full details of how they would do it.

“We have put all measures to deal with these issues, but if you are a Kenyan who claim to have mistreated and you have not reported to police and have not reported to Fida, then you have to,” Mr Kiraithe said
He accused people who he refused to name as being detractors to achieving vision 2030.
On the issue of killing of wildlife which the report said happened often, the government spokesperson defended the China Road and Bridge Corporation saying the killing of wildlife was ‘not intentional’.
He accused environmentalists of staging claims to stop the construction of the SGR.
